CATALIST

Field of rice grown with urea deep placement (UDP) method of fertilization.

Our Strategies

CATALIST organizes and develops its programs based on the following strategies:

  • Promoting Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) through support for the adoption of more intensive, profitable and sustainable production systems. ISFM combines organic and inorganic fertilizers with other conservation practices to increase yields while protecting the environment and maintaining the soil resource base.
  • Using the Competitive Agricultural Systems and Enterprises (CASE) approach. CASE links farm groups to input and output markets, and develops linkages among the main actors intervening along the commodity value chain.
  • The HIMO (Haute intensité de la main d’œuvre/labor intensive works) approach to improve rural infrastucture and promote agroforestry. This “labor intensive works” strategy creates jobs in building infrastructure, (primarily roads) to facilitate access to remote areas and increase trade. HIMO also implements erosion-control measures to prevent soil loss and facilitates awareness-building and mobilization around construction activities.
  • The promotion of incentive-oriented national and regional agricultural policies.
  • The strengthening of regional mechanisms of integration.
  • Contributing to the creation and enabling of national and regional policy environments that promote intensified agricultural production and improved marketing.
  • Outscaling through training trainers and developing partnerships with public and private stakeholders.
  • Sensitization on HIV/AIDS and gender-related issues.
